ANTIDEPRESSANTS and the PHARMACOMAFIA

Note this is the new format for YOUTHFUL AGING Newsletter!

The day my DREAM POWER article came out Mary Jo learned that her book received the Psychology Book of the Year award from Authors and Books.net.  KUDOS, Mary Jo,

ANTIDEPRESSANTS AND THE PHARMACOMAFIA-FDA SCAM ©
C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D.

The January 17, 2008 issue of  The New England Journal of Medicine  has the most FDA-incriminating article I have seen in an establishment publication! “Selective Publication of Antidepressant Trials and Its Influence on Apparent Efficacy”, p. 252-260, by Erik H. Taylor, M.D., et al from the Department of Psychiatry, U. of Oregon is perhaps the most important medical paper so far this century.  Their conclusion is that the efficacy “was 32% overall”!!!! Of 71 FDA-registered studies, 31% were not published! Negative or questionable studies were not published in 22 cases and in 11 cases were published and “conveyed a positive outcome” despite negative results!   The PharmacoMafia once again appears to have the complete complicity of the FDA in its assault upon honesty, integrity, and truth.

Thirty-two percent effective!!  That is even worse than I had gleaned from the published literature.  In published papers, an efficacy of 37 to 42% is common.  Of course, if 31% of papers were not published, the average would definitely be lower!  Since we can expect placebo to be about 35% this means that, OVERALL,  antidepressants SUCK.  On average they are not only less effective than placebo but they also have the added average 25% “side effects” that are published.  Hmmm.  I wonder whether the side effects---complications--- are also equally dishonestly published to be lower than those actually seen.

Indeed, the increase in violent behavior in children seen with antidepressant drugs is also seen in adults.  Parents who murder their own children are just one example of the serious complications of antidepressants, the second largest financial boondoggle of the PharmacoMafia.  The bottom line is that you cannot trust ANYTHING that the drug companies say, including papers published in major medical journals.  Kudos to NEJM and to Dr. Taylor and his colleagues.

This remarkable paper reminds me to tell you that 85% of depressed people can be safely helped with:
• The use of the Liss cranial electrical stimulator
• Relaxation with the Shealy RelaxMate II

Of course, physical exercise, spiritual counseling, and good nutrition are major adjuncts both in preventing and in treating depression.  And those who do the Ninety Days to Stress-free Living usually remain out of depression.  Far less expensive, far safer, far more efficacious.  In over 30,250 patients, 85% have been helped.  That is far superior to any drug.  Interestingly, a significant number of the patients I have treated for depression came in ON antidepressant drugs but were still depressed. Virtually all the others had failed one to several antidepressants.  Of course antidepressants are only the tip of a BIG iceberg.  Drugs kill each year at least 185, 815 people, are responsible for 28% of hospitalizations and thus contribute to 8.8 million hospital admissions each year! (“Reaction." American Medical News. January 15, 1996. Page 11)   Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I have often said you cannot afford the luxury of depression, anxiety, guilt or depression.  I now can say, more emphatically than ever, you cannot afford the stupidity of listening to the PharmacoMafia or of believing what they publish!  Thank you, Dr. Taylor for an honest article.
