A global Vision

Two important announcements!!  Then on to A Global Vision.

1.  THE BENEFITS OF HOLOS UNIVERSITY

Michelle is a Holos University Graduate with a great story to tell about her life progress. In her own words, here is what is going on for Michelle right now...

"I also wanted to share a similar story about the successes of Holos graduates in bringing the teachings into the greater community. I was hired 4 years ago to teach Theories of Holistic Counseling for the master's level counseling program at Chatham University in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. This course encompasses Transpersonal Psychology, including spirituality-Hindu, Buddhism, Christian mysticism, Native American spirituality, archetypes, ritual and labyrinth walking. I also have been teaching for 5 years a course in Contemplative and Somatic Approaches to Stress Management-teaching meditation and mind/body/spirit connection in the same program. I am loving sharing these ideas and concepts and the material has been very well received and many students have expressed that the experiences have been life=transforming. It is very rewarding to me.

Michele Bertini, PhD, ThD, MEd, NCC, LPC Holistic Psychotherapy Adjunct Professor, Chatham University"

2.  NICABM (the folks who run the Psychology of Health, Immunity and Disease

Conference each year in Hilton Head) will begin to accept registrations for their upcoming December conference.  I will be speaking there – it is one of my favorite conferences.  This is the definitive practitioners' conference in Mind/Body Medicine and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

NICABM put out a free Mind/Body Medicine Update report and quickly attracted thousands of practitioners, as did their teleseminar series.  There’s a good chance this year's conference will sell out – that's why I am sending this to you right away. I want to make sure you register early to secure your spot.  They are giving hundreds of dollars of bonuses for the first practitioners who register.  So, go to their website to secure your spot now.

http://www.mindbodymedicineupdate.com/?affid=spkrrCy13mo  this one is connected to the free report.

A GLOBAL VISION—General principles for a sustainable planet

By Jim Sloman, Ocean Blue Publishing, Petaluma, Ca. 2008

This is a brilliant, sobering, disturbing and realistic book!  In all the kafuffle over the state of the world, the economy and climate, one can find scores of opinions, most of which leave you wondering what is correct.  Starting with finance and economics, Sloman summarizes the precarious state of the world.  Essentially the world is living on fiat money—that is pie in the sky, paper mache, non-existent money!  Individuals, corporations and governments are borrowing to the tune of more trillions of dollars than exist. Derivatives, mega Ponzi schemes in themselves, have over 141 TRILLION dollars in hidden risks.  Just in the U.S., the real CPI has been running at 11% per year instead of the government’s lie of 2-3%.  The question is not whether this gigantic bubble of all bubbles will burst but when.

Sloman then discusses the geopolitical issues in equal preciseness. The ultimate futility of yet another cold war is obvious and yet here we go again.  That cold war is of course primarily over energy.  This section is one of his most intriguing.  Although we have adequate coal to last hundreds of years, the issue of increased carbon dioxide remains elusive.  The unbelievable stupidity of governments in using food crops for alcohol is rapidly leading the world into the inevitable collapse of the world’s economy.  Although it

is conceivable that hydrogen may save us, his conclusion is essentially that we must develop wind, solar and alcohol from ALGAE.

The summary of the extinction of life on Easter Island, as well as in the cultures of the Anasazi and of the Mayas makes the book worth a careful read!  The limits of “growth” are obvious but I have not seen them explored so well before this.  And the discussion of the wisdom that allowed Medieval Japan and Tikopa to reach sustainable existence is also the major spark of hope in this book.  Then we are thrust into the broader issue that led to the Rwanda tragedy---simple overgrowth!  And the brief mention of the desertization of the Middle East gives us the fifth major regional tragedy from multigenerational misuse of resources!

Finally Sloman discusses 10 General Principles that are essential if Earth is to survive with humanity.  The principles are obvious.  The problem is that he gives only 2 examples of isolated communities having the wisdom and power to do it correctly.  Today we are living in a global world with conflicting political and serious religious divisions.  It has been written that only 1000 people created the Reformation.  Considering the increase in population and the diversity involved today, it seems to me we need at least one million dedicated, wise leaders to create the miracle that is possible with Sloman’s vision—or that of Solomon.!
